Delivery Experience

The folks at Planet Honda told me that the delivery process is controlled by Honda and they are simply the pass-through agent for the car and paperwork. They have been very nice but admitted they do not know much about the process or the car. Based on my homework, I knew that NJ is issuing a sales tax exemption for zero-emission vehicles although the Federal income tax credit does not apply to leased vehicles.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived to close on the lease and pick up the car – the paperwork included a $1,000 charge for sales tax on the total lease amount! I protested and found the NJ web site that defines the criteria for the exemption. They told me they did not know this and redrew the paperwork. We also laughed that they would have to contact the previous 4 customers and tell them they each had a thousand dollars due.

William, The process is controlled by Honda Motors through the Fit EV web site. My suggestion is to choose the dealer nearest to where you live or work. From my experience and from what I have been reading, the dealers seem to know VERY little about the cars or the process. The most important thing to know is that NJ has granted a sales tax exemption for the cost of buying or leasing a zero-emission car. Do not let them buffalo you into paying this.
