EVs at Rutgers Day

It was a real pleasure to spend the day yesterday with some of the NJEAA members and their cars at Rutgers Day yesterday. We had 2 Tesla Roadsters and an S, a couple of Leafs, a Focus, 2 Active Es, and my Fit. There was a steady stream of people all day long. In my chats, I encountered a wide range of attitudes from “where can  sign up for a Fit EV?’ to ‘I don’t think the EV thing is scalable.’ As Ian mentioned in his Facebook post, I also met folks who had deeper questions than what happens if you run out of charge. Of particular note were several conversations about the macro impact of EVs, threatened legislation or rules about noise generation on EVs, and alternative “ownership’ models for the batteries.

I’d also like to give a shout-out to my friend from work, Tom and his son Bob…when we saw each other, we both said, in unison – “what are you doing here?!”

Three people I spoke with said they were going to apply for the Fit EV field test – I still have not seen another car in person – I wonder how many remain to be leased.

2 Thoughts on “EVs at Rutgers Day

  1. Hey Bob, I have not seen any on LI , inside EVs report about 46.

On the Fit EV forum I see VIN numbers as high as 235, but not sure if that means anything.

Thanks, Ed. In either event, those numbers are a long way from the 1,100 cars they built for this field test. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get them all on the road and if they ned to give more financial incentives.
