There’s been a lot more interest lately

Since Honda announced the reduction in the lease price from $389 to $259/mo and eliminated the mileage cap, there has been quite a lot more interest in this car. (Note to self: I still have not yet received an updated lease statement reflecting the new amount.) I have also noticed that many more dealers are now “EV certified.”

I have seen reports in the NJEAA and Honda EV Drivers groups about how the dealers still know very little about the cars and the tax breaks – this is very disappointing. I understand that the EVs are run out of a Honda Motors program and the dealers are simply pass-through agents who close the lease; nevertheless….

I also read in dismay that the TX and SC state legislatures have erected new barriers to “protect” the independent car dealers from the disruptive technology of Tesla Motors – enacting laws that prevent manufacturers from selling vehicle directly to retail customers. Elon Musk is looking pretty smart when he says that dealers who make a living selling ICE vehicles cannot possibly represent EVs.

I also live in NJ and want to know more about the fit ev. I was almost sure I was going for the leaf but now that I learned that we only pay liability for the Fit ev, that’s a big plus.

    Couple questions:
Doesn’t the 7500 tax break apply to the fit ev lease like they do for the nissan leaf?
When leasing an EV in NJ doesn’t the sales tax get exempt?
How much would you say you’re liability insurance is on your fit EV? I’m guessing around $90?

William, The $7,500 tax break is a tax credit from the US Government and it ONLY applies to the purchase of a zero-emission vehicle. It does not apply to the lessee. In NJ, the sales tax on the lease amount will be exempt from sales tax. I am paying $26/month in liability insurance for this car. bob

Bob, thanks for the quick replies. I would like to know what insurance co. you use for that $26/month! wow. Also, I’ll be putting my name down on the wait list…so far, planet honda in union has 4 people ahead of me. I hope they don’t run out of fit evs
