December Update

By the time December 1 rolled around, I was slightly ahead of 1,000 miles per month. When Honda removed the mileage cap, I joked with my friends that I should become a courier since the miles were almost free. I guess it wasn’t that funny 🙂

As the weather has gotten colder, my average energy efficiency has dropped from 4.7 –> 4.6 –> 4.5 miles per kilowatt hour. It is now colder than it was in April when my lease began and I am seeing shorter ranges. The shortest I have seen is about 55 miles when I do highway driving at the speed limit. I have started driving in Econ mode to stretch the mileage.

I recently started having a problem. A feature that I use often is the Bluetooth connection from my phone to the audio system, allowing me talk talk hands free. Several weeks ago, this feature stopped working because the start-up sequence got stuck during “loading’ and it never completes. I went to the Honda dealer who said there was nothing they could to fix it and offered to order a replacement. During their inspection, they disconnected the 12V battery to see if that would help. It did not. It did, however, reset the average energy efficiency display, and so I am starting over. This weekend, it measured 4.2 and 4.3. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

I also bought a pair of warm gloves to keep in the car as I imagine the day will come when I drive with the heat off to extend the range.

I have heard that my company will be installing charging stations at my office, perhaps in 2Q14 – that should take the mileage pressure off of my commute in the winter and I’ll be able to use the heat! LOL

Happy Trails.
